Jonni
Joyce first began her career in working dogs in the 1980’s as a canine
handler with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department in North Carolina.
She worked a dual purpose patrol dog, a Belgian Malinois named “Breston”,
for a number of years before opening her own professional working dog training
facility.
Jonni
is a certified instructor with N.C. Criminal Justice Training and Standards
Commission, possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from
Appalachian State University and was awarded an Advanced Law Enforcement
Certification from the state in 1993. Jonni has been ruled an expert witness
in the State of North Carolina in the training and handling of working dogs.
In her role as master trainer, she has trained police and search and rescue
teams across the United States as well as acting as a consultant for law
enforcement and rescue agencies.
Jonni
conducted the pilot program for Moonshine Detection for NC Alcohol Law
Enforcement. She also is the inventor of the Water Search Alert System used to
train canines to alert on drowning victims. She is responsible for the
development and implementation of the first K9
Unit Management course in the United States written specifically for
volunteer search and rescue teams. She is trained and certified in
computerized voice stress analysis and advanced hostage negotiations. She has
instructed leadership and management level classes at the national level at
SRDR (Search and Rescue/Disaster Response) and at the international ievel thru
an invitation from the National Search and Rescue Secretariat, Ottawa ON,
Canada, to speak at SARSCENE in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her writings have
frequently been published and many can be accessed on the World
Wide Web.
