This
is a 16 hour block of instruction that teaches the canine
and handler to locate a drowning victim in a body of water. Extensive
instruction is given in the foundation work of scent imprinting and
building the reliable, readable alert. This course teaches a step-by-step
process for teaching the beginning canine how to reliably locate a
submerged body. Other topics
covered are search patterns, marking
systems, proofing, utilizing divers and alternative scent sources,
standards, testing, and the introduction of the water search alert system. |

This
is a 16 hour block of instruction. Basic Water Search is a prerequisite.
Dogs attending this instruction should already be performing a reliable
alert behavior. Concentration is given to individual instruction in search
patterns and marking systems utilizing alternative scent sources other than
divers. Handlers are taught water dynamics, scent flow, and how to predict
and report the location of the body to IC.
