Water Search
Basic Advanced

This is a 16 hour block of instruction that teaches the canine and handler to locate a drowning victim in a body of water. Extensive instruction is given in the foundation work of scent imprinting and building the reliable, readable alert. This course teaches a step-by-step process for teaching the beginning canine how to reliably locate a submerged body.  Other topics covered are search patterns, marking systems, proofing, utilizing divers and alternative scent sources, standards, testing, and the introduction of the water search alert system.

This is a 16 hour block of instruction. Basic Water Search is a prerequisite. Dogs attending this instruction should already be performing a reliable alert behavior. Concentration is given to individual instruction in search patterns and marking systems utilizing alternative scent sources other than divers. Handlers are taught water dynamics, scent flow, and how to predict and report the location of the body to IC.
